Matthew 28 : 19 - 20

19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,

20 teaching them to follow all that I commanded you; and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

My agenda or Yours Lord?

On Saturday morning, after showering and getting dressed, I stood in my bedroom and lifted my arms.  I had a desire to pray for my friends and family, so I  said "Lord, I am bringing this whole bunch of people and I'm putting them at your feet. And I wondered who I should specifically pray for.

As I stood, I imagined this group of over 60 people standing in front of God's throne, as if I was a drone hovering just behind and above them. (not a vision, just my vivid imagination) Then I started picking out with my fingers, individual people that came to mind. All good.

Then I "picked" the next person and stopped with a groan. "No, not this person Lord - really?" Why is this individual even in the group?  I uttered another rebellious groaning sound and then had to surrender.  The Holy Spirit was gently showing me that this "prayer agenda" is not mine but His. He even led me to have the desire in the first place! It wasn't my good Christian-ness that did it...He knows who I still need to forgive and pray for, even when I don't think so.

So I prayed for this person and as my prayer continued, I experienced a new peace and joy, because that is what the Holy Spririt does. I forgave the person, prayed for the person and the person's children, who have gone through a very challenging time.  God brought them into my thoughts one by one and I could pray for each one specifically, knowing that His Spririt was urging me - and as Scripture says (Romans 8:26-27), The Spirit intercedes on our behalf.  It was such a blessed time I had there at God's feet. I had to smile.

The Holy Spirit convicts us gently.  He doesn't condemn.  When He convicts, there is always a presence of love and peace. This is an important realization. If we obey His prompting, we experience this great peace and deep love and we are empowered to release and bless.

I sometimes wonder what it would be like if I could just get a glimpse into what is happening in God's Kingdom - the part we can't see here on earth - when we obey and become a willing channel for God's love to flow.  I think we will stand in total awe that He uses us, not for our own sakes, but for others and for His own glory!

And He welcomes us when we pray, just as we are, in the place we find ourselves at the time.  We do not have to use many words, understand everything or whatever else we think we "should" be or do before we can come to God's throne in prayer.  He knows everything, even the dark, secret parts of our hearts.  He sees it anyway, so we can just go to Him and ask His Spirit to lead the way. And while you are quiet before Him and your mind drifts to thoughts that come into your head, go there. Let Him handle those thoughts, because those are usually the things that need to be dealt with. He is gentle, but also firm.

May your prayer life be rich, blessed and fruitful.
