Last week, one of the people that received the article “Times are Tight” wrote to me. He said that he was feeling down and unmotivated, and asked me to motivate him. What a responsibility that suddenly put on me! Think about it. If this person does well as a result of my intervention, he is great. But if he still does badly regardless of my intervention, he’s got someone to blame. Me!
Those of you that know me will remember that I have a strong belief in personal responsibility. Included in this is the responsibility for your level of motivation. So I wrote the following e-mail in reply:
“Thanks for your e-mail. I do understand the place that you're in right now. It's very difficult to remain motivated with the circumstances that we find ourselves in. However, remember that no-one can motivate you. Only you can motivate you. You choose what to think. You choose what you talk about. You choose what you do. You choose what to let influence you. Its all up to you. You have a choice.
When we pay attention to whats going on around us we become stressed, demotivated and fearfull. But when we focus on our passion, vision and goals we stay motivated. We don't need anyone else to motivate us at all. You are really the captain of your own destiny!”
Stay focused on your vision and goals for your life. Nothing else really matters.
